On Sunday, October 5, 2025, St. Matthew Catholic Church held its Annual Life Chain along Ballantyne Commons Pkwy from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.. The Life Chain is a prayerful and peaceful way for all Catholics to proclaim the sanctity of human life. Those in attendance held signs showing their support for Pro-Life and against those that promote abortions.
This event included Fathers Cahill and Kramer and Deacon Joe Becker in attendance. In addition, there were 70 adult parishioners, 2 children, and even 2 “Pro-Life” dogs present. Among the parishioners supporting the clergy were about a half dozen Brothers representing our Council, including John Andrysick, Ian Crowe, Tony D'Angelo, Norm Gemignani, George King, and Richard White.
Some photos of the event and the people that “Stand For Life” are shown below.
HELP Pregnancy Center of Monroe held their annual banquet fundraiser on October 2-3, 2025, at the First Baptist Church in Matthews. The theme of the event was ”Prepared and Positioned." Our Council was represented by several couples who attended the Friday event.
The program for the evening started with religious songs and then various testimonials from former clients who had experienced the material and spiritual assistance that this great organization provides for women and families when they find they are unexpectedly pregnant and have nowhere to turn.
After a break for a delicious catered meal, the evening continued with the Keynote Speakers. First was US Congressman Mark Harris of the NC 8th District. Congressman Harris is a former Senior Pastor of the First Baptist Church in Charlotte and a strong ProLife advocate. He spoke about the bills he has both sponsored and helped pass to combat the abortion industry, as well as defining marriage between one man and one woman.
He was followed by Founder and Executive Director Tara Quinn, who first spoke about their new RV, which was parked at the Church entrance for all to see/tour. They drive this vehicle to the abortion clinics and offer a free Untra Sound to women contemplating an abortion, so that they can see the Life in their babies, and hopefully turn towards Life and away from despair. She also spoke about the vision of HELP, their main facility in Monroe, and their two “satellite” offices in Indian Trail and Marvin. In each location, they continue to promote the Pro Life cause by their great work of helping women avoid abortion in times of crisis in their lives.

Walking With Moms In Need
Our Council was fortunate to be able to donate to pro-life ministry Walking With Moms In Need (WWMIN).
WWMIN does their work right out of St. Matthew Church and is headed by Volunteer Melissa Scanlon. Once a month, WWMIN runs a “Hand Up Day” in the parish gym where moms in need are able to select the items they need (e.g. diapers, maternity and baby clothing, and other baby items) as well receiving information about doctors, child care, etc.
A check from Supreme made out to St Matthew's Church for the benefit of WWMIN was received by our Council's Financial Secretary John Coudriet. On July 16, 2024, DGK Rocky D'Alessandro and Brother Tony D'Angelo went to St Matthew and met with the church's CFO Jane Balbirnie. Father Darren Balkey joined us and we discussed how the ASAP program works and how it supplements the pro-life donations that our council distributes.
Birthright of Charlotte
Our Council made a donation to Birthright of Charlotte, a Pregnancy Resource Center.
Birthright, located on Monroe Road in Charlotte, is where moms are given diapers, maternity and baby clothing, and other baby items, as well as instruction and counseling on parenting, child safety, etc. Dads to be are also welcomed and encouraged to come! Birthright offers assistance and aid to all facing an unplanned or problem pregnancy.
An ASAP check from Supreme made out to Birthright was received by Financial Secretary John Coudriet. On June 14, 2024, Brother Tony D'Angelo went to the Birthright location and met with Executive Director and Co-Founder Hank Chardos and was given a tour of the facility.
